general
conduct the most important rule is to be respectful to the other writers. your moderators do not consider respect an unreasonable expectation. alleys is an inclusive place where everyone can develop their ideas. do not blur the ic/ooc line and use common sense when interacting ic and ooc. drama between characters is normal; we expect it. we cannot moderate ic drama. out of character, please treat other members of the community with respect and solve disputes with civility. we're here to have fun!

bullying and harassment don't do this. any reports of harassment and bullying will be taken very seriously. report misconduct in the members post. any member found breaking this rule will be banned.
joining
applying to join, you will need an ic or ooc journal (whichever) with a backdated ic post and a backdated ooc post. please set all your posts to friends only. your backdated ooc post must have comment screening enabled and include a bio. there is no specific length requirement for your biography, but it should be long enough to at least include the following: first and last name, birthdate and age, occupation, neighborhood, and basic background, history, and personality details. you must add the mod journal to your friends list; if your bio is not visible to the mods your application will be rejected.

introductions intros must be posted with the majority of the comments responded to within three days. if you do not intro and/or respond to your intro comments, you will be removed. if you are short on ideas, there are intro templates in our member resources post but you can post whatever you want to introduce your character. playlists, ic or ooc ffas, social media posts, or moodboards can all work but comments must be enabled and responded to in order for it to count.
activity
updating we require one substantial update per month to stay in the community. what you post is up to you: moodboards, ffas, mixed media posts, and longer narratives all count as activity. you can make social media posts more substantial by engaging the community with questions in your post; simply posting photos of your pb will not count. anyone added after the 20th of the month will only need to intro as for their monthly activity.

other checks expect midmonth activity checks and semiregular monitoring of flists. do not noembed your profile. if you do not respond to an activity check or your friends list is outdated by more than 1.5 weeks, you will be removed. please do your best to stay present on the friends page.

inactvity members removed for inactivity must provide a substantial update before re-joining. future applications after being removed twice for inactivity will be considered case-by-case by the mod team.

extensions & hiatuses extensions are granted for one week. you may only request two consecutive extensions. if you will be out for more than a week, request a hiatus to avoid removal. you can request an extension or a hiatus in the members post.
misc
sensitive content be considerate! please post all triggering/nsfw content behind a cut with any appropriate content warnings.

pb changes, multiples, apps two pb changes per character are allowed. each writer is allowed a max of two characters at the community at once. alleys is app-free. keep ic interactions in journals.
